Paintings and Murals
Yerevan Series, 2023 - 2023
The Yerevan series of paintings is based on the artist’s six months stay in Armenia in 2022. Anton Ginzburg develops abstract compositions using technology and artistic research. Anton Ginzburg’s algorithmic approach in his painterly series continues the tradition of “Alberti’s veil” and demonstrates how artists employ technology for creative develop-ment. “Alberti’s veil” refers to the technique proposed by Leon Battista Alberti in the Renaissance, using a veil or grid to aid artists in creating accurate perspective drawings. Ginzburg’s algorithm serves as a modern equivalent, generating complex geometric structures that form the basis of his compositions. This technology integration expands the artist’s creative possibilities, collaborating with the algorithm to push the boundaries of the creative process. The resulting artworks capture the architectural and experiential qualities of the city, along with documenting his daily encounters and impressions. Anton Ginzburg’s painterly series represents an ongoing dialogue between the artist and the city of Yerevan as a visual archive. Ginzburg sets the stage for an organic and intuitive artistic exploration by employing an algorithmic approach to generate initial structures and then transform them through painterly technique.
